By WineCountry Collective April 17, 2025

Don’t let its small size fool you—Yountville is bursting at the seams with flavor, charm, and that effortless Wine Country magic. Nestled in Napa Valley, just a few miles north of downtown Napa, this picturesque town blends world-class wine and cuisine with a cozy, walkable vibe that feels more inviting than a typical tourist stop.

Strolling through Yountville means catching the scent of freshly baked pastries on the breeze, passing art galleries nestled between tasting rooms, and always being just a few steps away from your next glass of something delicious. Whether you’re here for a romantic weekend or a laid-back getaway with friends, Yountville makes it easy to slow down and soak it all in.

Yountville’s wine scene is as approachable as it is exceptional. No need for maps or long drives—you can sip your way through town on foot, then bike or drive a short distance to more great wineries.

Start at Priest Ranch, where bold, mountain-grown, artisanal wines are served up in a sleek, modern space. If you’re feeling adventurous, try their bacon and wine pairing—it’s a savory twist that somehow just works. Jessup Cellars is another spot to sip in town. It’s part gallery, part tasting lounge, and fully dedicated to making you feel at home while sipping through expressive Napa Valley blends.

Just out of town, head to Bell Wine Cellars, where the hospitality is warm and the wines are focused and elegant—many of which are single clone Napa Valley wines. Not too far away, Silverado Vineyards delivers sweeping views and a lineup of beautifully crafted wines. It’s a prime spot for a leisurely tasting as the sun dips behind the vines.

Also a quick drive from downtown is Cliff Lede Vineyards, which brings the energy with a rock-inspired tasting room and estate-grown Bordeaux varietals that hit all the right notes—especially if you appreciate a side of Zeppelin or Bowie with your Merlot. And don’t miss Goosecross Cellars, where the vibe is friendly, the views are vineyard-drenched, and the wines reflect a real sense of place. It’s the kind of Napa Valley spot where you’ll want to stay for “just one more” taste.

Where to Eat

Let’s be honest—people come to Yountville as much for the food as the wine. This town is a culinary playground, from Michelin stars to morning pastries, which is why it’s earned the moniker of Napa Valley’s Culinary Capital. And, as a bonus, most of the town’s restaurants can be found right along Washington Street, the town’s main drag.

Let’s start with breakfast and lunch. For something quick and utterly satisfying, Chef Thomas Keller’s Bouchon Bakery is a must. The line might be long, but it moves fast—and those buttery croissants and pain au chocolat are absolutely worth the wait. As lunchtime rolls around, you can head to the bakery’s sister spot, Bouchon Bistro, a beloved French bistro. Or, opt to pair wine and food in one go at The Kitchen at Priest Ranch, where creative seasonal bites and elevated comfort dishes are served alongside Priest Ranch wines. There’s plenty of outdoor seating, too, ideal for taking advantage of Northern California’s picture-perfect weather.

Ad Hoc delivers comfort food the Wine Country way—think expertly seasoned fried chicken, served family-style in a warm, welcoming space. It’s elevated without being fussy. Of course, you can’t talk about Yountville without mentioning The French Laundry, Chef Thomas Keller’s legendary fine-dining destination that needs no introduction. If you’re lucky enough to snag a reservation, prepare for a once-in-a-lifetime culinary experience.

One last must-try spot is RH Yountville, where the dining experience is as much about style and ambiance as it is the food.

Where to Stay

Yountville is all about effortless luxury—charming inns, romantic hideaways, and boutique hotels that make you feel like a local (who just happens to have excellent taste).

Maison Fleurie, a beloved Four Sisters Inn, feels like a little slice of Provence in Napa Valley. With ivy-covered walls, blooming gardens, and cozy rooms, it’s perfect for a peaceful escape. Sister property Lavender, A Four Sisters Inn offers a similarly homey vibe with a bit more whimsy—think cheerful color palettes, outdoor soaking tubs, and a complimentary breakfast that feels anything but ordinary.

Slightly larger than the aforementioned boutique hotels is the Hotel Yountville, known for its beautiful pool and relaxed ambiance. Another worthy destination is the North Block Hotel. This stylish retreat is ideally located in the center of town, with luxe touches like in-room fireplaces and a spa that’s perfect after a long day of wine tasting.

Between tastings and meals, there’s plenty to explore in Yountville—whether you’re seeking culture, adventure, or just a peaceful stroll.

Start your morning with a literal high point: a hot air balloon ride with Napa Valley Aloft. There’s nothing quite like floating above Napa Valley’s pristine vineyards as the sun rises, mist curling over the valley floor like a scene from a dream.

Back on the ground, get your art fix at the Napa Valley Museum, just a short walk from downtown. With rotating exhibitions focused on local history, culture, and creativity, it’s a great place to slow down and soak in some inspiration.

And for a leisurely activity that blends nature and art, wander the Yountville Art Walk. Dozens of sculptures dot the town, tucked between tasting rooms, gardens, and cafes—it’s like an art treasure hunt.

Conclusion

Yountville isn’t the kind of place you check off a list—it’s the kind you return to, again and again, because it lingers with you. It’s a town that invites you to slow down, savor the moment, and let your senses lead the way. So whether you’re sipping something bold, biting into something delectable, or simply wandering without a plan, you’re doing it right—because in Yountville, the beauty is living in the moment.
